Michael Calhoon Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Inc., Galesburg on Feb. 17, 2025.
Michael Rodger Calhoon, born June 23, 1972, in Galesburg, Illinois, passed away peacefully in his home on January 27, 2025, surrounded by loving family members.
Michael was the beloved son of Sharon Henson and the late Rodger Calhoon. He is survived by his children: Macie and Trey Calhoon, and Sophia Schneider; as well as the mother of his children: Rosaria Rodriguez; he also leaves behind his siblings: Michelle Esp, and Doug (Melissa) Henson; many cherished nieces and nephews; and countless friends that held him dear. He was preceded in death by his father Rodger Calhoon, his maternal grandparents: Karl T. and Mary Weinberg, and his paternal grandparents: Eugene and Willie Calhoon.
Mike grew up in Galesburg, and became a certified AMC Mechanic. His career included working in bowling alleys in Colorado Springs and Bloomington, Illinois, before spending much of his professional life at Northgate Lanes in Galesburg. He also worked alongside close friends remodeling houses, cutting down trees, and delivering bread until illness prevented him from continuing.
Mike had a passion for fishing, boating, hunting morel mushrooms, and hosting cookouts with family and friends. Known for his dry sense of humor he brought joy to those around him with laughter that often left tears streaming down their faces. A fierce competitor at foosball, he was always ready to dominate anyone willing to challenge him. He loved watching sports, especially cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and New Orleans Saints. He also enjoyed trips to the casinos to play the slots.
Above all else, Michael took immense pride in his children's accomplishments and the kind hearted adults that they've become. His memory will forever be a source of comfort to those who knew him.
A celebration of Michael's life will be held Saturday March 1, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Sidetrax in Galesburg. Memorials may be made to the family. Hinchliff-Pearson-West, Funeral Directors and Cremation Services Galesburg Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be left at h-p-w.com.
