Michael David Campbell was born January 14,1950 in El Paso, Texas. He was the third
child of Emmanuel and Jewell D. (Cheney) Campbell. Michael had two older siblings:
brother, Emmanuel "Cheney" Campbell, and sister, Carolyn Kay Campbell.
Michael, also affectionately known as Mike, was a genuine Houstonian. In 1968, he
graduated from Worthing High School; and enrolled in Huston-Tillotson College in
Austin, Texas. Michael transferred to Texas Southern University, and earned a
Bachelor's Degree in Business.
In his first job, Mike was employed by Kinney's Shoes, located in New Jersey. After two
years, Mike returned to Houston, Texas. From there, he attended the University of
Oklahoma, where he obtained certifications for banking and finance. This led to his
career in banking at Spring Branch Bank, The Republic Bank and finally, Preferred
Bank. Here, he functioned as Senior Vice President of Lending until his retirement in
2011.
In 1974, Michael married Deborah Wilson. From this union they had two children:
Meagan De'Jewel (Michael Brown) and Michael Rashad (Eboni). This led to the birth of
his five grandchildren: Michael Allen Campbell, Jordan Michael Brown, Kaitlyn Elizabeth
Campbell, Jacquelyn Nicole Brown, and Brandon Gayle Campbell.
Michael and Deborah divorced. In 2006, Michael, established a long-term relationship,
Virginia Mims, affectionately known as "Gini". The two remained together until Michael's
passing.
Michael is predeceased by his father, Emmanuel Campbell (1975), his mother, Jewell
Campbell (2000), and both siblings Emmanuel Cheney (2013) and Carolyn Kay (1973).
Michael is survived by his children, Meagan and Michael R., their spouses Michael and
Eboni, his five grandchildren, niece Chelsea, partner Virginia, Kaufman and McCalla
cousins, and a host of endeared family and friends.
