Much loved husband, father, grandpa, great-grandpa, uncle, and friend, Michael Harris Cardwell Sr. passed away at age 80 on November 12, 2025, at home with his family around him. Survived by his wife of 57 years, Fay Cardwell; children, Michael Harris Cardwell Jr. (Marianne) and Sarah Cardwell Negron (Jon); grandson, Daniel Harris Cardwell; great-grandson, Finley; brother, Robert Anthony Cardwell; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Norvin and Frances Cardwell; brothers, Norvin Louis Cardwell (Joyce) and Dennis Reed Cardwell (Eileen); and grandson, Michael Ivis Cardwell.
Mike was born and raised in Louisville, Kentucky. His youth focused on playing sports, especially football. He graduated from Trinity High School in Louisville and Centre College in Danville, Kentucky. He was a veteran of the US Navy, serving from 1967 - 1970.
Mike and Fay moved to northwest Indiana in 1987. Mike was the general manager of Culver Roofing Inc. until forming a roof consulting business, Roof Tech Inc., in 1999. He was a Registered Roof Consultant and active in many professional groups, including National Roofing Contractors Association, the Roof Consultant's Institute (IIBEC), and the Northwestern Indiana Roofing Contractors Association. He was also the owner of two roofing safety-related US patents. Mike and Fay relocated to Carmel, Indiana after retiring in 2015.
Mike was know for his quick wit and often just plain ridiculousness. He loved his family dearly and his warm, endearing and playful presence will be deeply missed.

There will be a memorial at Aaron Ruben Nelson Mortuary, 11411 North Michigan Rd, on Sunday, November 16th from 2-4 PM. Friends are welcome to visit from 2 PM until the time of the beginning of the brief veteran presentation and sharing of remembrances at 3 PM.
A private inurnment will take place at Crown Hill National Cemetery Columbarium, Indianapolis, Indiana at a later date.
