Michael Coombs Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jefferson Funeral Chapel - Alexandria on May 23, 2025.
Michael Sean Coombs of Fairfax Station, Virginia, passed away on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, after a hard-fought battle with complications from Polycystic Kidney Disease. He is preceded in death by his father, William Clarence Coombs; his stepfather, Leroy B. Spivey; and his sister, Mary Shannon Bellimam.
Sean is survived by his loving wife, Angela Wicks Coombs; his twin children, Lena Alexandra and Michael Aidan Coombs; his mother, Bettie Coombs-Spivey (Knight); his niece, Leila MacKenzie Boyd (Bellimam); his nephew, Brahim Jackson Bellimam.
Sean was a survivor in every sense of the word. After being diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease, he faced every stage of his health journey with strength and hope. Thanks to the incredible gift of organ donation from Lindsey Wade, Sean received a life-saving kidney transplant that gave him more time with his family. It was a second chance he never took for granted, and he carried deep gratitude for Lindsey and the medical teams who supported him along the way.
Sean was born on June 22, 1965, in Alexandria, Virginia, and grew up in the Pinewood Lake neighborhood. He spent his high school years in Glenwood Springs, Colorado, before returning to the DC area for college. He earned his Bachelor's in Business Administration from George Washington University in 1987 and his MBA in 1993. Sean had a deep love for GWU-not just for what he learned, but for the friendships he built and the many nights spent cheering on the basketball team with friends. Those memories were so near and dear to him that he later became a proud season ticket holder.
After graduating from GWU, Sean began his career at Xerox Corporation and most recently found a new start at Magnet Forensics, where he brought his sharp mind and strong work ethic to every project. Sean was known not just for his skills, but for the friendships he formed along the way-many of which lasted decades. He took pride in his work, and even more in the people he worked alongside.
To say that Sean was a sports fanatic is an understatement. He was a devoted Miami Dolphins fan from elementary school and loyally supported Notre Dame football. Game days meant flags on the porch, team gear on full display, and passionate cheering from the sidelines-or the living room. He also had an enduring love for baseball, especially the Baltimore Orioles. Sean could recite player stats, trades, and team history by heart, following every season through its highs and "mostly" lows. While in college, he worked part-time at the Orioles' ticket office on 17th Street in Washington, DC.
Sean had the insight, charisma, and love of the game to thrive in sports broadcasting-an unfulfilled dream, perhaps, but one he would have embraced with enthusiasm and heart if life had taken him down that path. Instead, he poured that same energy into being a proud and involved soccer dad, always on the sidelines supporting SYC Soccer and South County High School-where his daughter Alex continues to shine as a true soccer star.
Sean's deep love of music was another defining part of his life. His taste ranged from Modern English, Emmet Swimming, and Ben Gibbard to name a few – his love for music spanned decades and genres. He could often be seen rocking out to his favorite songs with Angie by his side, filling their home with joy and energy. That passion for music lives on in his son, Aidan, who is now pursuing his own journey in music creation.
Sean lived life with warmth, wit, and unwavering loyalty to the people and passions he loved. He'll be remembered for his booming laugh, his encyclopedic sports knowledge, his kind heart, and the way he lit up a room. The courage he showed through his health battles was matched only by the fierce love he had for his family.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on June 14, 2025, at Jefferson Funeral Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Sean's name to:
