Michael Cecil Crater

Michael Crater, age 73, of Cavour, passed away Thursday, July 31, 2025, at the Prairieview Care Center at Woonsocket. His memorial service will be held at 10:30 AM, August 23, at the Kuhler Funeral Home. Burial to follow in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Artesian. His visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. Michael Cecil Crater, the son of Cecil and Marie (Prien) Crater, was born on November 26, 1951, in Mitchell, SD. he attended school and graduated from Artesian High School. After graduation, Michael joined the U.S Army and was honorably discharged after basic training due to weak knees. Michael lived in Texas and North Carolina for many years until recently moving back to Cavour, SD in June of 2024. After recovering from Hodgkins Lymphoma, Michael attended Technical College in North Carolina and received his Associate's Degree in Drafting. Michael then worked as a draftsman for a box company in North Carolina for many years until his retirement. Michael was married twice, but both wives preceded him in death. Michael was a member of the American Legion in North Carolina and also volunteered at a local homeless shelter. Michael enjoyed word searches, putting jigsaw puzzles together, and playing the "Train" Game online. His favorite activity, however, was going out and spending time with his family and friends. Grateful for having shared in Michael's life are his brother, Terry (Clara) Crater of Cavour, SD; his niece, Sierra (Zack) Lindblad of Huron; two nephews: Terry Crater Jr. of Cavour and Joshua (Kaitlyn) Crater of Illinois; his aunt Mabel Schmidt; two great-nieces; and several great-nephews and cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two wives, Anna and Linda.
