Obituary published on Legacy.com by Applebee-McPhillips Funeral Home, Inc. - Middletown on Oct. 1, 2025.
It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Michael L. Cuomo on Saturday, April 12, 2025 at the age of 81. Born in Manhattan on 5/17/43 to the late Pasquale and Anna Cuomo, Mike moved to the Hudson Valley in 1984 following his retirement from the NYPD. In 1990 he met the love of his life, Patricia (Pat), and they were happily married for 33 years.
Mike was very proud of the time he served as a Police Officer in the Bronx. We never tired of hearing his stories and he never tired of telling them. From 1984 to 2017, he worked as a Dispatcher/Manager for several carting companies in Orange County, NY. Along with his wife, he also co-owned Neighborhood Sanitation. He was well respected and loved by everyone who knew him. His coworkers agreed "As a boss, Mike didn't take any garbage from anyone (no pun intended), but he was always the first in line when we needed help".
The next chapter of Mike's life was spent traveling with his wife, Pat. They took several cross country trips, visiting 48 states together. One of his favorite experiences was their Alaskan cruise. In 2019, they took a trip abroad to England to celebrate Pat's 70th birthday. Another one of his favorite vacations was in Laughlin where he and Pat spent his 75th birthday exploring the Casinos, Grand Canyon and the "London Bridge" of Arizona. Mike loved "donating" to many casino's across the country. His happiest times were spent with his family. He loved catering to the grandkids and making them his special peanut butter shakes. He took them on adventures and vacations, almost never missed a chorus or band concert and he loved watching them play sports. He enjoyed coaching little league baseball for his grandson, Matthew, (as well as for his son, Danny). When Mike would discipline them, they lovingly called him "Grumpa".
Although he was from the Bronx, he was an avid Red Sox and Cowboys fan. His family affectionately called him the "Energizer Bunny". When we told him to sit down and relax his response was "I will rest when I'm dead". Sleep in peace Mike, you deserve the rest. We love you, we will miss you and you will remain in our hearts forever. Survived by: his wife Patricia Cuomo; his children Lori Anne (Alex) Scherer, Jennifer Beach, Joseph Imbo, Matthew Imbo, Keri (Butch) Reynolds, Daniel Imbo and Barbara Imbo; his grandchildren Talashia (Luke), Alex, Matthew, Kelsey (Sergio), Joseph, Andrew, Mackenzie, Juliana and Kyla; his great grandchildren Laiden, Angelo, Blue, Gio, Harvey and Camilla; Several nieces and nephews; his loving sister and best friend Patricia (Bob) Porter
