Michael Dean Dains, known affectionately as Mike, passed away on October 4, 2025, at the age of 57, in Topeka, Kansas. Born to the late Paul Dains, Sr. and Sandra Hileman on June 8, 1968, in Abilene, Kansas. Mike was a man who lived his life with a robust blend of humor, love, and bravery.
Mike was a spirited soul. His laughter was infectious, and his courage in the face of hardship was an inspiration to all who knew him. He was a loving father, a cherished son, a protective brother, and a loyal friend. Mike's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he took immense pride in his role as a parent and sibling. Mike's life was enriched by the laughter and joy brought by his grandchildren, whom he adored beyond words.
He is survived by his mother, Sandra Hileman of Emporia; his loving sisters, Paula McWhorter (Larry) of Topeka and Wanda Siebenaler of Emporia; his beloved children, Tosha Wasson (Tyler) of Elmdale, Chance Dains of Emporia, Fae Dains of Leroy, Talyn Dains (Brian) of Emporia, and Choleton of Emporia. Grandchildren, Grayson, Axle, Lily, Dixie, Aria, and Emma. Several nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Paul Dains, Sr., his brother, Paul Dains, Jr., and his grandparents, Walter (Gabe) and Myrtle Dains and Lorene Craig and Robert and Gladys Duesler.
Despite not pursuing higher education, Mike was a man of many talents and a hardworking individual. He obtained his GED and embarked on a career that saw him mastering several trades. Mike was a skilled truck driver, cable installer, and mechanic-a true Jack of all trades. His work ethic and ability to adapt to various roles were admired by all who knew him.
Mike's zest for life was most apparent in his love for his family and friends. He was the heart of every gathering, often found playing cards, sharing stories, and enjoying heartfelt conversations. His laughter was infectious, and his presence brought warmth and joy to every room. Mike's children and grandchildren were the center of his universe, and he cherished every moment spent with them.
Those who knew Mike would describe him as loving, funny, and courageous. Mike's life, though too short, was lived fully and with an open heart. He relished in the simple pleasures and faced challenges head-on, leaving behind memories that will be cherished and lessons that will continue to guide.
As we bid farewell to Mike, we celebrate the indelible mark he left on our lives. He will be profoundly missed, but the love he gave us will forever be our guiding light.
