Michael Daugherty Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Goldfinch Funeral Home - Beach Chapel - Murrells Inlet on Jan. 13, 2026.
Michael Parks Daugherty, age 79 of Murrells Inlet, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2026 surrounded by his loved ones.

Michael was born on September 25, 1946 to Bessie Onita Yow in Pinehurst, North Carolina. He resided in Carthage, N.C. for much of his life but traveled extensively while young due to his stepfather being career military. He finally came home to Carthage in the late stages of the sixth grade in school and resided with his grandparents, James Arthur and Esther Parks Yow until his high school graduation.

He is preceded in death by his mother, grandparents, two sisters, Linda Hartsell & Judy Atkins and brother Danny Sineath.

Michael is survived in this life by his loving wife and best friend of 51 years, Sandrea, four very loved daughters and their husbands Jennifer Causey (Joey), Tiffany Marlow (John), Ashley Pritchett (Travis), and Paige Strickland (Dorsey); grandchildren Morgan, Lauren, Joshua, Lani, Landon, Tyler, Abigail, Stella, and Daniel; great grandchildren Easton and Ainsley; brothers Edwin Sineath of Winston Salem and Randall Sineath of Southern Pines.

Michael graduated from Carthage High School (NC) in its last year of existence (1964). The school caught fire during senior play practice (Michael had the male lead) and burned to the ground. Many students, including Michael, fought the fire with the local fire department. The school year was finished by putting up partitions in the gymnasium. Later in life, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business and a Master of Business Administration. Fond memories of Carthage were held dear to Michael during his life.

Michael served proudly in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam era as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal NCO and enjoyed much travel around the globe in performing assigned duties. In addition to earning the treasured EOD badge, he was awarded several medals for distinguished service. Favorites among his assignments was assisting the U.S. Secret Service in performance of VIP protection.

After the military, Michael worked in the steel industry as technical services representative during which he enjoyed extended travel in the USA, Europe, and Brazil. He represented companies in South Carolina and New Jersey while in that capacity.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM Friday, January 16, 2026 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel. Burial will follow at Vereen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 PM Thursday, January 15th at the funeral home.
