Michael Aubrey Davis, affectionately known as “Turkey Mike” passed away at his home on Monday, March 11, 2024. He was born in Bladen County on November 27, 1967, the son of George Carsie Davis and Doris Carol Sherrill Davis.
Mike is survived by his parents, one son, Blake Davis of Elizabethtown, and one sister Renee Davis (John) of Bladenboro.
Mike was an avid and well-known turkey hunter. He had several articles written about his turkey ventures including the National Wild Turkey Federation, The Outdoor Life Magazine and the Fayetteville Observer. He traveled across the nation to New Mexico often to deliver turkey feathers to the Native American Zuni Tribe to use in their religious rituals. He had delivered more than three million feathers over the span of his life. He was also known for his avid collections of just about anything and his love of history.
Mike had a generous heart and an outgoing personality. He loved his family, his friends and his community. He was extremely proud of his son, Blake. When asked to describe his dad, Blake replied, “He’s the fairest person I have ever met. He truly treated everyone with the utmost respect and fairness.” One of his favorite local restaurants was Giorgios, where he had his own table and his own steak specialty prepared. Mike will be remembered for his love of life, his compassionate nature and his ability to make friends wherever he went in life.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 14, 2024 from 1-2 pm at Bladen Gaskins Funeral Home in Elizabethtown followed by a funeral service at 2 pm with the Reverend Warren Hill and Jamie Davis officiating. Burial will follow the services in the Singletary Cemetery in Butters.
