Michael Davis Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Hodroff-Epstein Memorial Chapel - Minneapolis from Sep. 23 to Oct. 1, 2025.
Dr. Michael Davis (he always said "just call me Michael"), passed away peacefully at his home in Minneapolis on Monday, September 22nd. He was 91-years old. Michael was born in Los Angeles, but moved to Minneapolis after the sudden passing of his mother Effie Rosen during his childhood. He graduated from Washburn High School in 1952 and then worked construction to pay for his MD at the U of M in 1959 (go Gophers). Following his residency, he served as a physician in the US army for three years, bringing his wife and first two children to Neubrucke/Nahe, Germany (calling himself the oldest living draftee). After returning to Minneapolis, he opened an Orthopedic Surgery practice with his childhood friend Tom Litman at Methodist Hospital, where he served as Chief of Staff and Chief of Orthopedic Surgery. Years later, he built one of the largest independent medical evaluations companies in the Midwest. In his free time he cherished his open cockpit biplane, crashing one and surviving to tell the tale (and buying another). He was a proud heli-skier, loved playing his Ramirez guitar, which he purchased in Madrid, and played tennis regularly with friends at Wooddale. Michael's love for life and "happy as a clam" attitude lives on in his four children, Elizabeth (Ebie), Rich, Davey, and Anne; his 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his first wife, Sandy Davis whom he loved to the end; his second wife Margaret Davis who taught him the joys of life on a farm; and his beloved Isabelle who loved and stood by him until the very end. Burial service to be held at Fort Snelling (Gate 2, assembly area #6), Thursday Sept 25 at 12:15pm, followed by a 2pm memorial service and Shiva at Temple Israel at 2323 Fremont Ave., S. in Minneapolis (streaming link: www.hodroffs.com/MichaelDavis) direct link below. In lieu of flowers, donations requested to U of M Medical School, Future Physicians Scholarship.
