After his parents' passing, Michael went on to live at the South Texas Children's Home at the age of 8. Among them are Matt, Josh, and Kalyn Niemeyer, Brandon Rose and several others. He lived in the home until he graduated from Goliad High School. Another very special person in Michael's life was Greg Husky. He was a dear friend and father-figure who was always there for Michael throughout his life.
