Michael Degnan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Norton, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home - Framingham on Jan. 9, 2026.
Michael "Mike" Degnan, a lifelong Framingham resident, devoted family man, proud Marine, and decorated Framingham Police Officer, passed away surrounded by love on Thursday, January 8, 2026. He was a true legend-known not only for his service and strength, but for his kindness, humor, and unwavering generosity of spirit.

Raised in Framingham, Massachusetts, he was a graduate of Framingham High School and went on to serve his community for 38 years as a Framingham Police Officer. He loved being a police officer and took immense pride in his career, serving with integrity, compassion, and dedication. His bravery and commitment were formally recognized with the Medal of Valor, the September 11th Award, and he was a recipient of the prestigious George L. Hannah Award.

Before his law enforcement career, he honorably served as a United States Marine-an experience that shaped his values, discipline, and lifelong sense of service.

He was a life member of the Framingham Elks Lodge #1264. where he spent many happy hours-bartending, sharing laughs, and enjoying the camaraderie he cherished so deeply.

Above all else, he was a family man. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Cheryl (Waugh) Degnan; his sister and best friend Barbara Degnan, his sons, Michael Degnan, and Shaun Degnan and his wife Heather; his daughter, Katie Dang and her husband John, and his treasured grandchildren, Oliver, Oscar, Erin, Jonathan, Molly, Tai, Brian, Hannah, Lia, and Elayna. He is also survived by his great-grandchildren, Brennan, Forrest, Knox, and Arlo. As well as many nieces and nephews

Mike was the son of the late Robert and Margaret (Kenney) Degnan. He was predeceased by his loving parents, his beloved son, Brian Degnan; his sister, Anne and husband Mike Sullivan, his brother, Robert and his wife Barbara Degnan.

He was a wonderful father, but an even better "Bubba." His grandchildren were the light of his life-the true apple of his eye-and his world revolved around them. Whether it was teaching them card games, taking them fishing, letting them help feed the birds in the backyard, or simply spending time together, nothing brought him more joy.

He was a father figure to countless kids in the neighborhood-always present, always kind, always willing to lend a hand. Known for his quick wit and playful spirit, he was a natural trickster, always down for a good laugh and never missing an opportunity to bring joy to others.

He loved fishing, playing cards, spending time at the Elks, bartending, and most of all, being with Cheryl-his partner, his anchor, and the love of his life.

His legacy is one of service, laughter, generosity, and love. He leaves behind a community that is better because of him, and a family who will carry his spirit forward in everything they do.

Family and friends are invited to honor and remember Mike's life by gathering for a time of visitation in the Norton, McKinney & Lawler Funeral Home, 53 Beech St. Framingham on Sunday, January 18th beginning at 10AM. His Funeral Service will follow in the funeral home at 1PM. Interment will be private.
