Michael Paul Derise Sr.

Michael P. Derise, born on October 5, 1953, in Jeanerette, Louisiana, passed away on October 14, 2025. He was a resident of New Iberia for the past 30 years.

Michael lived life to the fullest, always finding joy in the things he loved most. He was an avid Saints and LSU football fan, rarely missing a game and always cheering loud and proud. Some of his happiest days were spent on the golf course with his buddies, sharing laughs and friendly competition. For many years, he dedicated his time to coaching and umpiring baseball, guiding his kids and countless others with patience and heart. Sundays were for family, good food, and his famous BBQ's that brought everyone together. He loved to dance, laugh and make memories with his wife and extended family – moments that will forever live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Left to cherish his memory are his children, Brandy Stansbury (Sam), Michael Derise, Jr., and Genee' Stoute (Cody); grandchildren, Brianna Romero (Broc), Baleigh Stansbury (Austin), Bryce Stansbury, and Brae' Derise Stoute; great grandchild, Baby Romero; and siblings, Deanna Crouch (late Johnny Crouch), Linda Gornto (Linn), Frances Cordill (Charlie), and Bobby Derise, Sr. (Liz); and his favorite pet, Rolo.

He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Cheryl "Sherry" Genest Derise; father, Francis Joseph Derise; mother, Jeannine Curtis; and brother, Francis Derise, Jr.

The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to Hospice of Acadiana, with special thanks to Zoe Thames, for the kindness, care, and comfort they provided.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at Louisiana Funeral Services & Crematory, 108 Hardware Rd. Broussard, LA from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
