Obituary published on Legacy.com by The Chapel at Boucher Funeral Home, LLC on Mar. 9, 2024.
It is with unmeasurable sadness and great faith in eternal life that we share Michael Charles "Mike" "M.C." Diveley born on September 4, 1986 entered his Heavenly Home to be with his Lord and Savior on March 6, 2024.
A cancer survivor and cancer thriver, Mike will always be remembered as our fighter, our warrior, our hero. Diagnosed on July 16, 1991 with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) he received a lifesaving bone marrow transplant (BMT) from his sister, Morgan. He was in the transplant unit for Halloween and since he couldn't go Trick or Treating decided that he would go around the neighborhood two times the next year and every Halloween and that is exactly what he did! After an AML relapse he received a second BMT on the anniversary of the diagnosis, July 16, 1992. We are forever grateful to God for the miracle of 32 years we had Mike with us after the AML diagnosis.
Though the years he faced numerous health challenges, a result of the treatments that saved his life. In 2014 he experienced renal failure and in 2015 received a "paired exchange" kidney transplant facilitated by the National Kidney Registry who produced his story which can be found here. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VsApU0fa9fE. In October 2023 came the devastating diagnosis of non-clear cell renal cancer metastasized in lymph nodes and lungs. Fighting this new fight, Mike kept life in front of him from a Christmas surprise of Taylor Swift October 2024 concert tickets for his nieces (Yes! He was going!), purchasing a new Jeep Gladiator, planning a Spring 2025 trip to Italy and what he was going to do to help kids with cancer.
A lifelong entrepreneur, beginning at five, Mike would sit by the elevator while a patient at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and sell his SpinArt pictures. He was the owner/operator of Gurks Deli and a Philly Pretzel Factory location.
Mike's career at PECO spanned a decade to include becoming a Facilities Clerk in 2015. He was an integral part of the Facilities work management process. In that role, he procured and delivered preventative and corrective maintenance materials to the regional Facilities Mechanics as well as the Main Office Building.
In March 2021 Mike accepted a position as a General Facilities Mechanic at the Main Office Building. In addition to his General Facilities Mechanic responsibilities, Mike completed BEST's lock training and made locks and keys for the entire PECO system. He was a member of IBEW Local 614.
A passionate Philadelphia Flyers, San Francisco 49ers and Philadelphia Phillies fan, Mike and his best bro, Billy attended the Phillies NLCS game in 2022. Recently becoming a boat owner "Captain Mike" loved making memories with his first mate and crew during boating adventures on the Chesapeake and celebrated Easter 2023 in Paris with family.
Never hesitant to share his survivor story, Mike spoke frequently over the years about his journey at the Mullica Hill
Relay For Life.
Mike will be forever missed and loved every day. He was the loving son of Anita and Karl Baker, loving brother of Morgan Diveley and Karen and Marc Zlatkin, loving nephew of Fran and Tom Wark.
The best ever Uncle Mike to Frankie Mannino and Kayla, Lily, Colin and our "Angel" Clara Zlatkin and Uncle M and Godfather to Maizy, Athena and Bonnie Foley. An intricate part of their lives, his nieces and nephews will always cherish the special times together and forever memories. Mike is also survived by cousin Geoff Wark, lifelong friend and "bro" Billy Foley (Leah), special family Michele and Jim "Bo" Moran, grandfather Karl O. Baker and stepsisters Tabitha Schwartz, Kassie Vermeeren (Rich) and Aspen Baker. Predeceased by beloved niece Clara Ellen Zlatkin, father Michael J. Diveley, maternal grandparents Volia and Frank Kalabus, paternal grandparents Jane and Tom Diveley, Sr.
"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen." -Hebrews 11:1
