Michael "Mike" Perry Duffy, for those who read The Detroit Free Press, was also known as "Captain Video", died December 16, 2024 in Grosse Pointe Woods, Michigan. Mike was born on March 20, 1945, in Richmond, Virginia to his parents Edwin and Gwendolyn Duffy (nee: Perry). Mike's charismatic spirit and zeal for life left an indelible mark on all who knew him.
After college, he earned his law degree. However, his true calling lay in the realm of media as he became a respected Television Critic for the Detroit Free Press. His insightful reviews and passion for storytelling resonated with readers, making him a beloved figure in Detroit.
Mike's love for his family was unparalleled. He leaves behind his cherished wife, Jane, with whom he shared a life full of laughter and love. His legacy continues through his children, Christopher Guest Duffy and Elizabeth Brooks Duffy, who inherited their father's warmth and zest for life. Mike also leaves behind his devoted siblings, Christine Garber and Lawrence (Kass) Duffy, whose bonds were strengthened by shared memories and enduring affection.
Mike was a RABID Ohio State Buckeyes fan! His enthusiasm was contagious, and game days were always a spirited affair. His passion for music was evident in his vast collection of records and his attendance at countless live music events. Mike also loved dancing, a testament to his belief in living life to the fullest. His writing, another avenue for his creativity, showcased his deep love for pop culture and his ability to engage and inspire his audience.
Mike's extensive collection of Rock 'n' Roll and various sports teams' t-shirts became a well-known signature of his eclectic taste and his way of striking up conversations with fellow fans. Each piece in his collection had a memory that he was always eager to share.
Those who knew Mike would describe him as loving, friendly, and passionate. His infectious smile and genuine interest in others made him a friend to many people. He approached every aspect of life with a fervor that was both inspiring and endearing.
Mike's life was marked by an unwavering commitment to his family, a profound appreciation for culture, and a joyous engagement with the world around him. His memory will continue to be a beacon of love, friendship, and humor that touched all who were fortunate enough to cross his path. Mike will be deeply missed, but the stories he shared and the love he spread will forever be part of the lives he touched.
Visitation for Michael will take place on Friday, December 20th from 4:00-8:00pm at Chas. Verheyden, Inc., 16300 Mack Ave., Grosse Pointe Park.
