Michael Duggan Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery Funeral Home on Feb. 16, 2026.
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael L. Duggan, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully departed this world on February 14, 2026, at the age of 73 following a courageous fight against cancer. Michael's final days were spent surrounded by love at the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, a place that provided him and his family with great comfort and care.

Born on August 10, 1952, in Winfield, Kansas, Michael was the son of John Joseph and Mary Jane (Greer) Duggan. He was preceded by his loving parents, whose guidance and strength shaped the wonderful man he became.

Michael's life was a testament to love, dedication, and service. He married the love of his life, Susan Joan Duggan, on January 23, 1982, in Fort Walton Beach, FL. Together, they built a life filled with joy, adventure, and unyielding support for their family. Michael is survived by his devoted wife Susan, his son Sean Duggan, and his daughter Marcia (Gabriel) Gilbert. He leaves behind two adored granddaughters, Lily and Poppy Gilbert, who brought immense joy to his life. Michael is also survived by his brothers, John (Mary) Duggan, and James (Lorna) Duggan, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a close-knit circle of friends. His legacy of love and commitment extends to the 1970 College High School graduating class of Pittsburg, Kansas, who remember him fondly.

A proud Navy veteran, Michael served his country with honor from October 13, 1971, to August 11, 1975, during the Vietnam War. After his service he earned a Bachelor of Science at Pittsburg State University, Kansas. His sense of duty and loyalty was evident in every aspect of his life, including in his career as an aerospace engineer.

Michael's life was defined by his steady devotion to his family. He was a constant presence in the lives of his children and grandchildren, always eager to participate in their activities. Whether it was serving as a Boy Scout leader, supporting the Girl Scouts, or traveling across the state for sports games, Michael was there. He was their biggest supporter, and fan and his love was the foundation of their lives.

In his church life and Bible study group, Michael found joy in spiritual growth and fellowship. He cherished the camaraderie of golf, not just for the game but for the friendship it provided. He and his family shared a passion for travel, delighting in the destinations they explored together.

Michael will be remembered for his loving, caring, and dependable nature. He was the best man to be around, a source of strength and laughter for all who knew him.
A Visitation and Service to celebrate Michael's remarkable life will be held on February 28, 2026. The family will receive friends beginning at 9:30 am. Service will commence at 11:00am with a reception luncheon following, at FaithLife Church, located at 8300 C Avenue, Marion, IA 52302.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the Eastern Iowa Honor Flight or the Dennis & Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy, organizations that were dear to Michael's family.

As we bid farewell to Michael on earth, we know that he is in the loving arms of Jesus Christ our Savior and we will be reunited with him in heaven. May he rest in peace, forever remembered and cherished.

To his family and friends, he was the one who was always there.

Deepest condolences to Mike´s family. Growing up, Mike´s grandparents lived across the street from me, so I remember Mike visiting them. Mike was a great friend at College High. It´s great to read about the positive impact his life had on so many people.
