Michael D. "Mike" Dunn

Michael "Mike" D. Dunn, age 72, a longtime resident of Lake Forest, Illinois, passed away unexpectedly, on June 6, 2025.
Mike began his dedicated career with the Highland Park Fire Department in 1977, proudly serving the community as a Lieutenant for 30 years before retiring in 2007. Known as a jack-of-all-trades, he was the ultimate handyman, a dependable "Mr. Fixit," and a friend to everyone he met. When he wasn't with family or at the firehouse, he was operating heavy machinery and working in excavation, which he enjoyed just as much.
He was the devoted husband of 49 years and loving partner for 57 years to Kathleen Dannenberg Dunn; a loving father to a late infant daughter, Kelly (Kevin) Rynes; and Kasey Morgan. Above all, Mike's greatest joy was his family, especially his five grandchildren. He was the cherished "Grampy" to Paige, Parker, and Payton Rynes, and Spencer and Hunter Morgan. Mike was the middle child of seven born to the late Robert and Diana Dunn and was the adored big brother of Terry (Patti) Dunn. He was also the beloved "favorite" son-in-law of Donna Dannenberg and the late Robert Dannenberg, and treasured brother-in-law of Susan Dannenberg Bauer. Mike was a devoted uncle to many and a special Godfather to Brian and Kevin Dendy and John Dunn. Mike was a steady pillar of support to his large extended family and a devoted, lifelong brother within the fire service fraternity.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025, from 4–8 PM at Wenban Funeral Home, 320 Vine Avenue, Lake Forest. A Funeral Mass will follow on Friday, June 13, 2025, at 12:00 PM at The Church of St. Mary, 175 E. Illinois Road, Lake Forest. Interment will be private.
