Michael Francis Dwyer, of Weymouth, died peacefully on Saturday, November 8, 2025, at the South Shore Hospital in Weymouth. He was 79.
Raised in Quincy, Michael later moved to Connecticut, where he graduated from high school. A gifted athlete, he excelled in sports and went on to hold numerous athletic records throughout the state. Following high school, Michael enlisted in the United States Army on October 11, 1965. He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1969.
Michael was a man of many passions. He loved fishing, drawing, music, and caring for plants. He had a deep appreciation for nature and a genuine love for animals, especially dogs. His friends and family will always remember his sweet tooth, his easygoing "happy-go-lucky" spirit, and the joy he found in life's simple pleasures.
Creative, humble, and kind-hearted, Michael had a rare ability to connect with others. His intelligence and compassion led him to a career in education, where he worked as a special education teacher. He was deeply devoted to his students and their families, and his commitment extended beyond the classroom, as he helped open a state program that made a lasting difference in the lives of many. After retiring from teaching, Michael went to work with his brothers as a roofer. He enjoyed the time he was able to spend with his brothers, and having the opportunity to work with his hands.
Michael will be remembered for his big heart, bright smile, and the positive energy he brought to every moment.
Michael was the beloved husband of Judith Bannister-Dwyer, with whom he shared many loving years of marriage. He was the devoted father of Elizabeth Balser of North Carolina, Christopher Dwyer of Quincy, Matthew Dwyer and his wife Jaimie of Pembroke, and Halla Dwyer of Quincy. Michael was the dear brother of David Dwyer and his wife Deborah of Pembroke, the late Robert Dwyer and his late wife Judy, the late Timothy Dwyer, and Shaun Dwyer and his wife Stephanie of Holbrook. He is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.
Following cremation, service will be private.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations in Michael's name to the charitable organization of one's choice.

I am so immensely sorry for your families loss. Words can't even comprehend how you all must be feeling right now. Your dad was a great man; he was very funny, kind, overall a good hearted man. Loved spending times at the old house with you guys in the pool with Blue and Buzzy.

Sending love and prayers to you all during this time.
