Michael Dean Erickson was born to Robert and MaryLee (McGarvie) Erickson on May 15, 1956. Mike grew up on the family farm raising chickens, cattle, pigs and crops. He graduated from Platte High School in 1975, and enlisted in the South Dakota National Guard. After boot camp, Mike earned a degree in auto mechanics at Mitchell Technical Institute. After earning his degree, he returned to the family farm west of Platte, where he worked for the rest of his life. He served 29 years in the National Guard and was known to many as Hawkeye.

Michael was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Alpha small group, and the American Legion in Platte. He was a volunteer firefighter at the Academy Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, trap shoot, remote control cars, helicopters and tanks.

Michael Dean Erickson, of Platte SD, passed away on May 8, 2025 at Aurora-Brule Care and Rehab after a fierce 5 year battle with pancreatic cancer.

He is survived by his mother MaryLee Erickson of White Lake, SD, brother Terry Erickson of Platte, SD, and sister Cheri Knight (Rick) of Mitchell, SD, five nephews, many cousins and 27 farm cats.

He was preceded in death by his father Robert Erickson, maternal and paternal grandparents.

Funeral services for Michael Erickson, age 68, of Platte, SD, were held on Wednesday May 21, 2025 at 10:30 am at Trinity Lutheran Church, Platte, SD, with Pastor David Martin officiating. A Prayer Service was held on Tuesday evening 7 pm at the church with visitation one hour prior to the service.

Amy Ringling, Jodene Foxley and Vickie Boltjes were in charge of registration.

Lee Hanten, Ross Ringling and Larry Kuiper were ushers.

Music was provided by Shirley Johnson, pianist.

Congregational hymn was "How Great Thou Art."

Recorded music was "Battle Hymn of the Republic" by Army Band and Choir and "Amazing Grace" by Czech Bagpipe and Drum Corp.

Casket Bearers were Travis Knight, Jason Knight, Eric Knight, Jeremy Knight, Levi Knight, and Rollie Warejcka.

Honorary Casket Bearers were the Alpha Small Group members and Campbell-Timmerman American Legion Post 115.

Military honors were by Campbell-Timmerman American Legion Post 115 and the National Honors Team.

Burial was in West Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, rural Platte, SD at 1 pm.
