Michael Andrew Evans

Michael Andrew Evans, 61, of Newark, New Jersey, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025. Born on April 22, 1963, in Newark, New Jersey, Michael was the beloved son of Carol Evans and William Thompson III - and a shining light to all who knew him.
A proud son of Newark, Michael grew up on 5th Street in North Newark, where his childhood was filled with joy, deep-rooted friendships, and a strong sense of community. Those early bonds grew into an extended family that remained close throughout his life. A standout student at Barringer High School, Michael graduated as Salutatorian in 1982, a reflection of his determination, intellect, and drive.
After high school, Michael attended Upsala College before answering a higher calling to serve his country. He joined the United States Air Force, following in his father's footsteps, and later continued his commitment in the Air Force Reserves. His sense of duty was matched only by his dedication to his family.
In 1991, Michael married and joyfully embraced fatherhood with the births of his children, Courtney and Luther Evans, and the blessing of his step-daughter, Sheniece Booker. He often said that building his family was one of the greatest honors of his life, and he poured his heart into being a loving, supportive, and steadfast father.
Michael brought his big heart and boundless energy to everything he did. His career path took him across the country, and he ultimately found his professional home with Aramark as an Environmental Services Supervisor. For over a decade, he uplifted hospital environments, always putting people first and inspiring those around him with his work ethic, leadership, and compassion.
More than anything, Michael loved life. He had a deep appreciation for music, never missed a chance to hit the dance floor, and lit up every family gathering or backyard BBQ with his warm laugh and magnetic presence. He was the kind of person who would support those around him without hesitation - a true rock for his family and friends.
Michael was preceded in death by his loving parents, Carol Evans and William Thompson III, and his brothers, Eric Flanagan and Todd Green. He is survived by his cherished sisters, Carolyn Evans, Tracey Daley, and Lorre Grimsley; his beloved children, Sheniece Booker, Luther Evans, and Courtney Evans; and his adored grandchildren, Yasmeen Booker and David Evans - affectionately known as "Little Buddy."
Michael also leaves behind a wide and loving circle of nieces, nephews, cousins, and lifelong friends who will carry forward the legacy of love, laughter, and generosity that defined Michael's life.
Michael Andrew Evans lived with purpose, gave freely of his heart, and made everyone feel like family. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit lives on in the music, the stories, the smiles, and the countless lives he touched.
