Michael (Mike) Anthony Everard of Westland, Michigan, passed away on October 29, 2024, at the age of 78.
Mike grew up in Detroit, Michigan, alongside his two sisters and brother where he attended Redford High School. He was later drafted into the Army, where he quickly rose to the rank of E5. After the Army, Mike worked for 30 years as a machine builder/tool maker where his skills and expertise allowed him to travel across Europe. He possessed a deep understanding of how to repair a wide range of machines and shared this knowledge with many others.
Although Mike accomplished many things in life, his greatest pride was his family. After leaving the Army, Mike met Sandie, the love of his life and the woman he would spend many many days with. Sandie and Mike had their first date in 1968, and they never looked back; they later married in 1969. Then in 1970 their small family started to grow, and they had three amazing children that Mike adored. In 2002, Mike became a papa, his favorite word in the world. He was a papa to five extraordinary grandchildren.
Mike shared so much of his knowledge and love with his family. When asked to describe their papa in one word, his grandkids said caring, grateful, cheerful, humorous and dependable. And that's exactly how many people would describe Mike. He was an amazing man that would do anything for this family. He always showed up to games and recitals for his kids and grandkids, sitting for hours cheering them on and waiting for the after-game hug. He was also there if you needed anything fixed or built, ready to lend a hand. From boats to houses to decks, Mike was there with a tool bag in hand. There was nothing that Mike couldn't fix or learn to fix.
Mike loved fishing with his sons and grandkids, dinner with his daughter, time with his family, and golf with friends. Mike loved a good breakfast. If not at Senate Coney Island, any table with family or friends would do. He was never in a rush to leave the table because that's where you enjoy good stories and dessert.
Mike will be deeply missed. He is survived by his wife, Sandra Kay Everard (Tawyea), children Wayne Michael (Deanne) Everard and Pamela Kay Everard, and daughter-in-law Kristy (Ron) Everard-Wells. Grandkids Paige, Kendall, Abigail, Allison, and Caleb Michael, as well as his sisters Cherie (Tom) and Denise (Mike) and numerous other loved ones. Mike was preceded in death by his son James Everard, brother Buddy Everard, and parents Evelyn and Glenn Everard.
May he rest in peace, with his spirit continuing to guide us.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Mike on Sunday, December 1, 2024, from 12 to 4 p.m. at Monaghan Knights of Columbus in Livonia.
So please join us to help celebrate Mike's marvelous 78 years of life, 55 extraordinary years of love with Sandie, 54 years of fatherhood, and 22 years of being a papa, that he so joyfully experienced.
