Michael Ewing

Michael Ewing, 72, of West Des Moines, passed away March 3rd, 2023 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. A memorial service will be held Friday, March 10th, 2023 at 11:00 AM, at Lutheran Church of Hope in Ankeny, Iowa.
Michael was born in Olean, New York on November 8th, 1950 to John R. Ewing and Mary Ellen Coulter. He grew up in Scottsdale, Arizona, and he loved living in the desert and swimming in the family pool. As a young adult, he worked for Senator Harold Hughes in Washington, DC, where he met his wife, Phyllis. He worked as a congressional staffer and investigator for the House committee that investigated the assassination of President John F. Kennedy. He co-wrote a bestselling book about the assassination of Kennedy titled Coincidence or Conspiracy. He then moved to Iowa where he continued his research and writing, particularly focusing on the impact of organized crime on the American political process. He also worked at the Harold Hughes Women's Recovery Center. He later shifted careers to the marketing and insurance industry where he worked until he retired.
He loved spending time with his three grandchildren. He also cherished his time with his dogs, Blue Bear, Nikki, Mooka, Scooter, and Emmie. He enjoyed researching, writing, and reading about American history. He also closely followed politics and current events.
Michael is survived by his wife, Phyllis (Hughes) Ewing; his son Jack (Katie Craven) Ewing; his grandchildren, Sean, Rosie, and Ellery; his brothers, Jon (Diane Gysbers) Ewing and Tom Ewing; his sister Nancy (Pete) Posson; nieces, Catherine Ewing, Linda (Ed) Kotsides, and Barbara Posson; nephews, Jon Posson and Ted Cole; great-nieces, Adeline Ewing and Mary Alice Ewing; and great-nephew Becker Ewing.
He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Frank Ewing; sister-in-law, Pat Ewing; and nephew Bill Ewing.
The family would like to thank the medical staff at Iowa Methodist Medical Center.
