The disease that took his brother Hank, took Michael Wayne Filipponi, on Friday, June 20, 2025.
Michael was born in Santa Maria On June 5. 1944 He attended local schools starting with: "Orange Street Kindergarten, a gift to the City of Santa Maria by his grand-parents Henry and Emma (Barbettini) Filipponi, St. Mary's, El Camino and graduating from Santa Maria High School class of 1963. He attended Allen Hancock Jr., college for two years before transferring to San Francisco State where he graduated with a BA degree in Business Administration in 1968.
Michael was drafted into the Army in 1969 and was stationed in Washington, DC where he worked for the Criminal Investigation Division, DoD. He enjoyed his service to the country and attended the rank of SP-5 upon discharge. Michael was a proud veteran.
After his discharge Michael went to work for the Veterans Administration Hospital in Martinez, CA. He was hired to work in the file room but never spent a day there. Michael had many different jobs working for the VA. From admissions clerk to travel clerk. Even spending two years in a Methadone Clinic as an in-take co-coordinator. After two years as Agent Cashier, he transferred into the account department. Michael enjoyed the work and the people there and rose to the position of Chief of Accounting where he stayed until his retirement in 1995.
Michael had lived in the San Francisco Bay area after returning from his tour in the service. He lived there for 47 years before moving to
Fresno, CA in 2015 to be closer to his family there. But he always' considered Santa Maria his "home"..
Michael enjoyed traveling with many of his good friends. His trips took him to Egypt, Italy, Greece, France, Czech Republic, Germany, Austria, England, Buenos Aires, Canada, Mexico, Hawaii, and Jamaica.
Michael was proceeded by his parents Elwin G., and Jewel R. Filipponi and his brother, Hank. He is survived by his nephew, Henry and his family of Winchester, ID, plus many and I do mean many loving cousins too many to mention here. Michael, also maintained a close circle of childhood friends, Susan, Mary Ann, Vicki, Steve, Dusty, Don -again too many to list. They know who they are and have the many good memories they shared with Michael.
Catholic burial will take place in the Santa Maria Cemetery on Thursday, June 26, 2025, at 12:00 noon, Santa Maria, California
