Michael J. "Mike" Fitzsimmons, Sr., 61, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, at Northern Light Maine Coast Hospital, in Ellsworth, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He faced every challenge head on and fought hard until his last breath. That was him. He was a leap year baby, born on February 29, 1964, in St. Stephen, NB, Canada to John H. Fitzsimmons, Jr., and Evelyn L. (Rice) Knights.

Michael graduated from Portland High School in 1981 and enlisted in the U.S. Army National Guard. He found his passion as a floor installer working alongside his brother and best friend, Eugene, for 17 years; a trade he later passed onto his son, Michael, Jr. He was a hard-working man who enjoyed spending time with those he loved, doing the things he loved. His favorite times were spent traveling, playing poker with his family, loving his dog, Carmella, feeding "his animals," spending time with his good friend, Maureen, chatting on Facebook, singing karaoke, and most of all, fishing. His unique and fun-loving personality always made those around him smile and laugh, never knowing what he would do or say next.

Michael is survived by his mother, Evelyn Knights of Surry; his children, Danielle, Michael, Jr., Samantha, Dalton, Caitlin, and Katrina; his sisters Brenda Fitzsimmons and her husband, Donny of Otis, and Diana Frederick and her husband, Jody of Myrtle Beach; and aunt and uncle, many loving cousins, nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his father, John H. Fitzsimmons, Jr., and his brother, Eugene D. Fitzsimmons, Sr.

A celebration of life will be held at his favorite fishing spot. Family and friends will be updated with details as they unfold.
