It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael "Mikey" Flynn, who departed this life on October 30, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on August 6, 1938, in Cloughbrack, Clonbur, County Galway, Ireland, Michael was a cherished husband, son, brother, and friend to many.
He pursued his education at The Brixton School of Building, qualifying as Master Cabinet Maker and Carpenter through the City and Guilds of London, UK. His craftsmanship led him to a distinguished career as a carpenter in New York City Housing, where he eventually retired after decades of dedicated service. He moved to
Williamsburg, VA in 2014, where he spent many wonderful years in Colonial Heritage surrounded by great friends and neighbors.
In addition to his professional accomplishments, Michael was an avid sports enthusiast, playing Gaelic football and hurling as a young man. Later he loved watching soccer, rugby, and golf. He also found joy in playing the traditional Irish card game "25". He spent many hours gardening and enjoying his craft of carpentry.
Michael enjoyed attending mass and talking with old friends in St. Patrick's Parish in Clonbur when he traveled to his homeland. Locally, he was a member of St. Olaf Catholic Church in Norge, Virginia. His warmth and kindness left a lasting impact on those who knew him.
Michael is preceded in death by his beloved parents, Mary and Michael Flynn, and his sister, Anne Sullivan. He is survived by his devoted wife, Ellen, who stood by his side throughout their many years together. He also leaves behind his sister, Mary McBride (Ted), brother Johnny (Anne), nieces, nephews, and a large extended family including brothers-in-law Thomas, Michael, and Johnny Curran; sisters-in-law Anne Zonnenblick, Kate Larson, Margaret Kelly, and Martina Pennington; and numerous friends who will miss him dearly.
Michael was a perfectionist in everything he put his hands to and set the standard for all of us. His legacy is one of love, dedication, and friendship. His memory will forever be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
A memorial tribute in Williamsburg will be announced soon. A funeral mass will be celebrated in Clonbur in the spring of 2026, where his cremains will be interred.
In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to Hospice House of Williamsburg, who cared for Michael in his final days, or to St. Olaf Catholic Church.
