Thomas Brown Flynn, MD, FACS, FAANS, FRCS (Thi)
Dr. Flynn was born in Halls, TN on 9/15/1936, at the Baird Memorial Hospital, Dyersburg, TN, the son of Thomas Theodore Flynn, Jr. and Helen Bradford Brown, who predeceased him. He was related by birth to the Bradford, Brown and Spence families, all of West Tennessee. His father, an author of some note, divided his time between New Mexico and Tennessee, resulting in Dr. Flynn's early years being divided between Northern New Mexico and West Tennessee, until he began high school, and permanent residency in New Mexico. Schooling and professional development was, from the outset, directed toward the sole goal of becoming a physician, being the descendant of three generations of physicians.
He and his loving wife of thirty-six years, Linda Bryant Flynn, have made their home for the past thirty-five years in St. Francisville, LA. They have two children, thru previous marriages, Mary Daniel Godke (John) and Jason Robert Lanoha (Kalli). Six grandchildren, Emery Godke (Lydia), Ashleigh Godke, Andrew Godke, Riggs Lanoha, Blakely Lanoha and Presley Lanoha. Dr. Flynn's three surviving children, by his first marriage, Sean Michael Flynn, Heidi Flynn Barnett (Arden), and Rhys Bradford Flynn (Stephanie) are residents of the Baton Rouge and Jackson, MS areas. He is survived by their children, Alayna Cherie Flynn, Lauren Allen, Hayden B. Allen, and Caralie Abigail Flynn.
Following graduation from Highland High School in New Mexico, Dr. Flynn attended the University of the South at Sewanee, TN, graduating with a BS degree. Matriculation at Tulane Medical School, where he received his MD degree in 1962. Further education was focused on training in neurosciences, as a Neurological Surgeon. Thus, a fellowship in the Ochsner-Tulane neurosurgical program, during which he was appointed to chief of Neurosurgery at Charity Hospital in New Orleans, and achieved board certification in Neurological Surgery with admittance as a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
Dr. Flynn holds an honorary degree of Doctor of Medicine in Neurosurgery at the Kohn Kaen University of Thailand and is an honorary member of the Royal College of Surgeons of Thailand and The Neurosurgical Association of Thailand. Dr. Flynn founded The NeuroMedical Center in Baton Rouge, LA, a multidisciplinary Neuroscience group practice encompassing all major aspects of neurosciences and related specialties. Professional affiliations have included membership in the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, American College of Surgeons Southern Neurosurgical Society, The Houston Neurological Society, membership in the Louisiana Neurosurgical Society, where he served as president in 1977. He has been Associate Professor of Neurological Surgery at the Louisiana State University Medical School and Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of neurosurgery, Tulane University medical school. Dr. Flynn was a Consultant in Neurological Surgery at the former Earl K. Long Memorial Hospital in Baton Rouge. He served as Chief of Surgical Services at Baton Rouge General Hospital and Chief of Neurosurgical Services at the Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was Chief of the Medical Staff, Baton Rouge General Hospital. He was elected a member of the American Society for Stereotactic and Functional Neurosurgery. Membership in American Academy of Medical Directors was instrumental in aiding him in the development of The NeuroMedical Center. Beginning in 1983, Dr. Flynn regularly led a team of volunteers to Thailand, Vietnam, and Cambodia in furtherance of the Christian ideal of giving. This effort was undertaken, with the support of his surgical team and resulted in many lasting relationships with professionals in these countries. Dr. Flynn served for many years on the Board of the Louisiana Medical Mutual Company (LAMMICO). As a decades-long member of The Rotary International, he was the recipient of their "Service Above Self Award". He was the recipient of the "Humanitarian Award" of the American Association of Neurological Surgeons. And served on their Task force on Neurosurgical Practice Assessment and Quality Assurance.
Dr. Flynn served on the boards Boy Scouts of America, West Feliciana Hospital, Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady University (FranU) and Council of Aging. His hobbies included hunting, blacksmithing, playing the piano, traveling, fishing and writing.

Visitation will be at Grace Episcopal Church in St. Francisville on Friday, Nov. 7, 2025 from 830am until service of Christian Burial with Eucharist offered at 11am conducted by The Rev. Canon Dr. Stephen Holmgren. Burial will be in Grace Episcopal Church Cemetery, St. Francisville.
