"The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step." Lao Tzu
Michael Scott Ford, age 61 years old, of Dalhart, passed away Tuesday, April 1, 2025, at his home following a long illness.
Mike was born in Dumas April 2, 1963, and lived in Dalhart most of his life. He was the son of the late Alfred R. and Nell M. (Ferguson) Ford. Mike loved to keep busy. He enjoyed cooking and trying new recipes; he enjoyed gardening, collecting coins, and taught himself how to crochet, do needlework, and play the ukelele. Mike was an outdoorsman and who loved camping on the Red River, smoking a good cigar, and his pipe.
Mike was a police officer for the City of Dalhart for 30 years, serving as a detective and interim chief when needed. He was a real "people person" and was known to as a "good cop." After retirement, and in the spirit of "keeping busy," Mike became an oil rig inspector for Devon Energy the past six years.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his wife of 33 years, Stacey (Bush) Ford. He is survived by his sons: Cameron Michael Ford of Dalhart, and Kaden Zachary (Allesia) Ford of Burlington, North Dakota; his beloved granddaughter, Madailynn Ford; and brothers: Danny (Carol) Ford of Hartley, and Keith (Brenda) Ford of Springlake-Earth, Texas.
In keeping with Mike's wishes of "something simple," a graveside service honoring his life will be 2:00 PM, Thursday April 3 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Dalhart with Curtis Abla officiating..
