Michael L. Friedman

Michael L. Friedman, age 79, of Toledo, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on 12/13/2025. Born on January 7, 1946, Mike was a lifelong Toledoan whose presence, voice, and stories left a lasting impression on everyone who knew him.
Mike proudly served in the Air Force and in the Ohio Air National Guard, assigned to the 180th Fighter Wing, where he worked as a Traffic Manager and Transportation Agent. His service reflected the values he lived by dedication, responsibility, and loyalty. After retirement, Mike fully embraced life beyond work, never slowing down when it came to conversation, connection, or community. He proudly served as Ohio Democratic Party State Central and Executive Committeemen for Ohio State District 11. Mike was a Democrat National Delegate to the 2008, 2012 and 2016 elections as well as being a Presidential Elector. He also served as the Secretary-Treasurer of American Federation of Government, AFL-CIO Local 3041. He was a strong advocate for employee rights and was instrumental in contract negotiations. For a short period he was employed with Amtrak. He had also been a Commander at VFW Post 5530.
He was a natural storyteller, someone who could turn any gathering into an event. Mike loved being out and about, talking with friends, strangers, and anyone willing to listen. He was deeply social, passionately engaged in politics as a proud Democrat, and never shy about sharing his opinions. Equally important to him was his faith in Jesus and he was ready to go home to the Lord as he stated several times these last few weeks.
Mike had an undeniable zest for life and food. He had a special passion for Chinese food, pasta, seafood, and, most of all, good company around the table. Mike also had a love and passion for trains, stamps and coin collecting. At home, he found constant companionship with his beloved dogs, Spencer and Calvin, who brought him daily joy.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 and a half years Sherryl Friedman; his sons, Russ Friedman and Chris (Jessica) Friedman; and his cherished grandchildren, Jaydyn, Ava, and Michael Friedman, who brought him immense pride and happiness. He is also survived by his cousin, Marvin Schonbrun.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Russell Friedman and Sara (Sydelle) Friedman.

Sherryl and Mike loved each other very much, all the way until the end. Sherryl will always love and remember him.
Those who knew Mike will remember his larger-than-life personality, his strong convictions, his warm heart, and his endless stories. He lived fully, loved deeply, and left behind a legacy of connection, laughter, and authenticity that will not be forgotten.

Services will be held on Saturday, December 20, 2025 at 12 noon in the Robert H. WICK/Wisniewski Funeral Home 2426 North Reynolds Rd. Toledo, OH. 43615 where the family will receive friends beginning at 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Interment with full military honors will follow at Historic Woodlawn Cemetery.
