Michael L. Gavin

May 29, 1947 – February 15, 2026

JOHNSBURG, WI – Michael Leonard Gavin, age 78, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2026. Born in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, on May 29, 1947, to the late Leonard and Isabelle (Konopacki) Gavin, Michael was a man of steady character, quiet intellect, and deep devotion to his family.

A proud veteran, Michael served his country with honor in the United States Army during the Vietnam War from 1966 to 1969. Upon his return, he settled in Johnsburg, where he built a life centered on the things that mattered most: his family, his community, and the simple, sharp satisfaction of a challenging crossword puzzle.

While many knew Michael for his quiet nature, his family will most fondly remember his "goofy" and lighthearted sense of humor. He had a unique way of catching people off guard with a well-timed joke or a bit of silliness, a trait that brought constant light and laughter to those closest to him.

Michael is now reunited with the love of his life, his wife Eleanor (Flesch) Gavin, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded by his parents and his sisters: Helen Rateau, Elizabeth Nelson, and Lenore Cutting.

His legacy of strength and humor lives on through his sons, Brian (Katie) Gavin and Jason Gavin, and his cherished grandchildren, Stephanie Gavin and Jonathon Gavin.

Michael's memory will be held dear by his surviving siblings: Kathleen VanArk, Carol Robbins, Lillian Weber, Jill Ocasio, and Donald Gavin, as well as many nieces, nephews, and friends.

Whether he was navigating the complexities of a crossword or sharing a quiet, witty moment with those he loved, Michael moved through life with a calm and kind spirit. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Burial will take place in the St. John the Baptist Cemetery in Johnsburg with a date to be determined. Military Rites will be conducted at the time of burial.
