Mr. Michael Samuel Goldman

Michael "Mike" Samuel Goldman, 76, passed away from cardiac arrest on the morning of June 20, 2017 in the presence of loved ones at Metropolitan Hospital in Harlem, after suffering a heart attack one week prior. Faithful husband, loving father and excellent provider, he is survived by his wife, Lauri, and their son, Dylan Samuel. A native and life-long New Yorker, Michael Goldman was born on October 9, 1940 to Sidney and Rose Goldman. He grew up in the Bronx, but later moved to Manhattan's Upper East Side, where he and his wife resided for the remainder of his life. A well-respected member of New York City's financial district for many years, Michael worked for one of the largest jewelry manufacturing companies in the North East, Frederick Goldman, Inc. from 1982 – 2002. While with FGI, Michael quickly worked his way up from VP of Finance to VP & CFO of the company. He was a member of Financial Executives International from 1975 – 2017. Even in his retirement, Michael remained an active and integral part of New York City's business community. In 2005, Michael began volunteering full-time as a business consultant for SCORE NYC. He also spent a year on the Advisory Board to the U.S. Network of Virtual Enterprises in 2008. Michael was not like most successful businessmen in that he cared for those he worked for, with, and those he managed. He had a unique gift – the ability to see the good in everyone. He never met a stranger. He always took an interest in the lives of others. Michael possessed a natural curiosity and, at times, an almost childlike sense of wonder. He loved learning, enjoyed reading and was an avid book collector. He belonged to a book club. He also had a passion for music of all genres, and had an enormous CD collection. In his later years, although Jewish by ethnicity and raised in the Jewish faith, Michael sought a deeper spiritual connection with his creator and fellow man, and began studying and practicing Buddhism. For those wishing to pay their last respects, Michael Goldman was laid to rest on June 22, 2017 at Mount Lebanon Cemetery, 7800 Myrtle Avenue, Glendale, NY 11385. His grave is located in the Kushowater Society, Block R, Section 5, Row 9, Plot 20. --Obituary by Dylan S.
