Michael Kevin Grunwald

Michael Kevin Grunwald, 66, of Greensboro, NC passed away peacefully at his home, on Monday, September 12, 2022, after a long-fought battle following a stroke in November 2020.
He is survived by his fiancé, Christine Holden, and his children, Brandon and Cara, all of Greensboro, NC. He is also survived by a sister, Tiffany Verschoore, of Milan, IL, and stepsisters, Vicky McConaghy of Coal Valley, IL and Roxie Heinen of Waterloo, IA, many cousins, nieces and nephews, and a large group of friends that he loved dearly.
He is preceded in death by his father, Edward Grunwald, and his mother, Norma Lee Gilliland.
Mike was born on April 29, 1956, in Davenport, IA to Edward and Norma Lee Grunwald. He graduated from Central High School in 1975. In 1981, he married Jodi Hensen, with whom he had two children, Brandon and Cara. In 2012, he reconnected with his childhood friend, Christine Holdren, and realized they were each other's forever loves. Along with his son, Mike owned and operated Greenscape's Lawn Care from 2000 until retiring in 2015. He was an avid fan of the lowa Hawkeyes and Miami Dolphins. He also had a passion for gardening and cooking. His BBQ ribs were legendary. He also coached many of his children's sports teams while they were growing up, even receiving a parent of the year award from Cara's travel cheerleading squad. He also enjoyed extreme decorating for Halloween and Christmas.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, September 25, 2022, at 2220 Oak Hill Drive, Greensboro, NC 27408 from 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. Please bring a dish to share and a favorite story to tell.
