Michael (Mike) J. Hamady, age 94, of Port Orange, Florida, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2024 in his home at the Wickshire Port Orange Assisted Living facility.
Mike was born in Youngstown, Ohio on March 6, 1930. He graduated from Chaney High School and attended Youngstown (State) College. He worked as a Grocery Manager at Loblaws, as a welder at Grinnell in Warren, Ohio, and also as a landscaper along with many other jobs.
He married Rosella (Mastopietro) in 1954. They moved to
Titusville, Florida around 1987, where he spent many days surf fishing.
Mike took up the hobby of sketching and painting in his late 80's, watching and learning from the talents of Bob Ross on TV. He sketched and painted many beautiful nature scenes. He will also be remembered as a gifted storyteller, retelling details of his schooling, jobs and interests from as far back as his early childhood. His family and his nurses were always entertained by the details of those stories. Many of those stories were recorded from interviews with Mike and compiled into a book by a hospice volunteer.
Mike is preceded in death by his loving wife Rosella, who passed away in January 2013 in
Titusville, Florida. He was also preceded in death by a son, Michael Hamady III, who passed away in 1957.
Mike is survived by his sons and daughters: Richard (Ellen) Hamady of Wetumpka, Alabama; Nancy Hamady of Westport, Massachusetts; Beth (Jeff) Wallace of Powell, Ohio; and James (Shareen) Hamady of Edgewater, Florida. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Stephen and David (Audrey) Hamady; Jennifer (Paul) Grady; Louis Hamady; and Connor Wallace.
He is also survived by five great Grandchildren: Paddy Rose (8 years old) and Nora Lu (6 years old) Grady, Callie (2.5 years), Michael and Katie Hamady (twins born in November).
A celebration of life is being planned.
The family of Mike Hamady wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Vitas Hospice nurses and staff and to the staff at Wickshire Port Orange for their loving care of our father.
