Lt. Michael C. Harkins

Michael C. Harkins of Gloucester Township, NJ passed away peacefully at home on January 1, 2025, at the age of 55. Michael was a graduate of Highland Regional High School. His life was one of service to the community, his family, and the people that he encountered. He medically retired as a Lieutenant of Police from the Gloucester Township Police Department, serving from August 18,1997 to December 1, 2015. He had a reputation as a "cop's cop" and a good leader. Michael also served for many years as a volunteer Firefighter with the Chews Landing Fire Company. He was a proud member of New Jersey FOP Lodge 206. His Catholic faith was a substantial part of his life, as he was a parishioner of Our Lady of Hope Parish in Blackwood, NJ, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Holy Crusaders Council #9193 in Blackwood, NJ.
Michael was beloved by his family, and is survived by his parents, Deacon Michael J. Harkins and Rosemary Harkins (nee Callahan), his brother, Deacon David J. Harkins (Lisa), and his sister Christa M. Long (Daniel). He was the beloved uncle of David J. Harkins Jr., Grace I. Harkins, Daniel M. Long, Allison S. Long, and step-uncle to Christopher Denzel. He is also survived by his uncles, aunt, cousins, close friends, fellow officers, and neighbors.
Viewing will be Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 9:45 AM – 11:45 AM at Our Lady of Hope Parish / St. Agnes Church, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012, followed by the Mass of Christian Burial at 12:00 PM. Internment will immediately follow at St. Joseph's Cemetery, Chews Landing, NJ. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to Our Lady of Hope Parish, 701 Little Gloucester Road, Blackwood, NJ 08012.
