Michael Dean Harris, affectionately known as Mike, passed away on September 8, 2025, at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. He was born on November 12, 1962, in Iowa City, Iowa.
Mike grew up in Urbandale and remained a metro Des Moines resident his entire life. He had a passionate career in construction, dedicated to building houses. He took immense pride in showcasing his work to family and friends, always excited to share stories about the projects he worked on over the years.
Beyond his professional life, Mike had a zest for life that was reflected in his hobbies and interests. He loved riding his motorcycle, feeling the wind and freedom with every ride. He cherished the moments spent with friends and had a deep affection for animals, particularly his pets, who brought him great comfort and companionship.
Mike is survived by his father, Dean Harris of West Des Moines, his daughters, Jessica (Jason) Carey of Earlham and Ashley Harris of DeSoto, and his grandchildren, Jacob and Josie Carey. He shared a deep bond with his long-time partner, Polly Leto, and her daughter, Bobbi (Mo) Perez, all residing in Des Moines.
He was preceded in death by his maternal and paternal grandparents, as well as his mother, Jeanette Harris. Mike's passing leaves a significant void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, hard work, and dedication will be forever remembered.
