Michael Jerome Harston, the eldest son of the late Willie "Bill" Harston and Clara Fitzgerald Harston, was born on September 2, 1958, in Pittsylvania County, located in Virginia. Michael was raised in a home grounded in love, protection, guidance, and unwavering support. His parents set a powerful example of unconditional love-one that shaped the man Michael became. Willie and Clara Harston preceded him in death on November 11, 2002.
Michael was baptized at Shockoe Missionary Baptist Church, where his spiritual foundation was established early in life.
Michael spent his life in the Danville area, where he was educated in Pittsylvania County Public Schools and developed a strong work ethic that defined his career. Through hands-on training, mentoring, and instruction from his father and a close circle of supportive men, Michael gained valuable skills that he carried with pride. He was well known throughout Danville and the surrounding communities for his work in construction and grounds maintenance, earning respect for his expertise in roof installation.
Michael was known for his quiet, comedic nature and his memorable way with words. He shared a special bond with his mother, whom he lovingly called "Ma." Many cherished memories were made during her visits to bring him a meal- especially when fried chicken was involved-always prepared with enough love to share with anyone nearby.
Michael leaves to cherish his memory his son, André LaDarryl Fitzgerald; his sister, Vanessa Harston, and her children, Jeffery Hall and Ashley Hall; his brothers, Brian Harston and Philip Harston; and his children, Rhyncouya Luck, Branford Myles Harston, Jaelynne Harston, and Jalisa Harston. He is also survived by a host of loving aunts, uncles, cousins, a great niece and nephews and friends.
Michael leaves behind a legacy defined by quiet strength, dedication, humor, and a profound love for his family.
