Mike was born into the Hartoin family as the youngest of five siblings.  He grew up around the family business and was proud to join the ranks at Bill's Battery once he became of age.  He started his career there as a delivery driver while at Elder High School and gradually worked his way up the company after finishing college at the University of Cincinnati.  He dedicated over 40 years of his professional career to Bill’s Batteries, building countless personal and professional relationships with his colleagues and clients while continuing to grow the family business.  While he was deeply committed to his work life, the true loves in his life were golf and family

An avid golfer, and the unofficial golf coach to the Hartoin family, Mike loved to spend his free time on the greens of the Western Hills Country Club where he and Karen were proud members.  He was a patient instructor and a fierce competitor, but most of all, he was a true lover of the game.  His reverence and understanding of the game made him an ideal partner and coach, even on a bad day. He had the opportunity to play some of the best courses in the world and graciously shared those experiences with those he loved.

Mike loved his family intensely.  His beautiful wife, 4 wonderful children, their significant others and his 3 grandchildren were the apple of his eye.  As a father, he was always present. Whether he was coaching girls soccer or standing in the rain during a golf match, he was deeply involved in the lives of his children.  He was fortunate enough to be able to show his family the world through travel and give them every opportunity available, yet his humility and groundedness never allowed him to lose sight of his privilege.  He was thoughtful, kind and selfless to the core and his steadfast character was an example by which he raised his family.

Those who were lucky enough to know him quickly called him a friend and knew that they could count on him for a thoughtful ear, and wholesome laugh and engaging conversation.  He was inquisitive and fearless, a combination that lead him down the path of hundreds of books and many home improvement projects. He was truly a force for good and his presence in this world will be sorely missed.
