Michael Havens Obituary
Michael Otis Havens, 84, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Sunday, September 29th, 2024. Born on July 20th, 1940, in Grass Lake, Michigan to the late Milo and Rhea (Ward) Havens, Michael lived a life rich with love and generosity. He married his first wife, Rosalyn (Klee) Havens, in 1958 in Jackson, Michigan, and they shared many happy years together until her passing. Later in life, he found love again and married Shirley Havens on May 10, 2012, in Kalkaska, Michigan.
Michael was a proud member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles for over 40 years and was a Golden Eagle. Mike first joined in Michigan Center and after moving North he was instrumental in establishing Kalkaska Eagles #4496 here in Kalkaska. He was devoted to the 1st Saturday of the Month Breakfast, enjoyed sitting at the door collecting the money for the buffet breakfast and talking to all the members who came through the door. He served as a Trustee for many years. He was passionate about many things, including ice fishing, bear and deer hunting, NASCAR, and cheering on his favorite Detroit Lions and Tigers. A racecar driver in his younger years, Michael passed on his love for racing to his son, who continues that tradition today. He enjoyed spending time in the summer camping with friends at the Michihistrigan Campground in Gould City, Upper Peninsula. Known for his caring and generous spirit, Michael was always ready to lend a hand. He did snow plowing in the winter and would often clear driveways for those in need, never expecting anything in return.
Above all, Michael was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather, deeply cherished by his family and friends. He will be remembered for his kind heart, selflessness, and the joy he brought to those around him. He will be in our hearts forever.
Michael is survived by his wife Shirley Havens; his daughters Sherry Golightly and Laurie Freeman; son Michael Havens; granddaughters Jessica, Ashley, Nicole, Sara, Amanda; grandsons Jason (Becka), Johnnie.
