Michael Henderson Obituary

Michael R. Henderson, age 78, of Spring Arbor, Michigan passed away with family by his side on October 31, 2025. Michael was born in Greene County, Pennsylvania on April 10, 1947 to Ralph and Iva Henderson. During Mike's senior year, his family moved to Jackson where he graduated from Vandercook High School. Mike went on to get his Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at MSU. Mike had strong leadership qualities that followed him throughout his lifetime. In 1968, Michael served in the U S Army during the Vietnam War, for which he received the Bronze Star. Shortly after returning home, he began his 35 years career working for the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. Most of his early career was assigned to the Detective Bureau as Sargent Detective, later promoting to Lieutenant and retiring a Captain of Security. Mike's dedication and ability to show strength and compassion while serving the citizens of Jackson County spoke volumes about his character. He was liked and respected by all. After retiring from Law Enforcement, Mike started his own construction business, building his son's home along with other construction projects around the Jackson area. Mike made many friends throughout his lifetime, who will miss him dearly. Mike especially enjoyed hosting the Thursday afternoon poker gatherings, which became legendary. This group included Mike's good friends Clifford Luce, Dale Holcom, Jim Murdock and of course Mike's dog Rex, who never missed a game. Mike also enjoyed camping with family and friends, especially staying at Indian Lake State Park in Manistique, Michigan. Mike is survived by his wife of 34 years, Debra (Schultz) Henderson; son, Eric (Rachel) Schultz; daughters, Angela (Kent) Tyler, Rebecca (Tim) Born, Melissa Hall; grandchildren, Tyler (Liz) Hicks, Lawson Tyler, Baily (Trista) Henderson, Derian Hall, Dylan Hall, Zoe Schultz, Jeff Tyler, Angela Allen, Tim (Jessica) Tyler; great-grandchildren, Mary Jane Allen, Marshall Allen, Jenna Tyler, JJ Tyler, Chance Tyler, Elowen Henderson, Rosen Henderson; nieces, Michelle Rice, Nicole Adamczyk; nephews, William Henderson Jr., Jacob (Anna) D'Lamater; great nephew, Braxton Adamczyk; great niece, Indigo D'Lamater; sister-in-law, Ann D'Lamater; brother-in-law, Mike D'Lamater. Mike was preceded in death by his parents; brother, William Henderson; sister-in-law, Sylvia Henderson; great nephew, Maddox D'Lamater. Mike loved his family dearly and instilled a strong moral compass as how to live life with love, honesty, and dignity. We will miss him the rest of our lives. Per Mike's wishes cremation has taken place. Family will gather at a later date to celebrate Mike's life. Lauer Family Funeral Home in Concord is handling services. We just learned of Mike´s passing. Sorry for your loss, Debbie, Angie, Becky and Melissa (as well as Mike´s multitude of friends).
While Mike and I served within the Detective Bureau at JSO, we shared thoughts, ideas, plans and a few "schemes". We thought alike, and kept the victims of crimes in mind, at all times.
You will be dearly missed by MANY, my friend.
