Michael Allen Herried, age 73, of Hixton, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on November 10, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Michael was born on October 7, 1952, to Douglas and Alice (Johnson) Herried of Blair, Wisconsin. He graduated from Blair High School in 1971. In 1972, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and proudly served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1974. Michael often joked that it was "the only draft he ever won."
Following his military service, Michael began a long and dedicated career with AMPI in Blair, WI, where he worked in the maintenance department and as a forklift operator for an incredible 51 years. His strong work ethic and dependable nature earned him the respect and friendship of his coworkers.
Outside of work, Michael found joy in life's simple pleasures. He loved fishing, playing Euchre, and throwing horseshoes. He was also an avid bowler who enjoyed the camaraderie of league nights.
Michael had a deep passion for softball and spent many years pitching for local teams. His teammates affectionately nicknamed him "Fridge," a name that stuck with him both on and off the field. Teammates often joked about how they knew "Fridge" was rounding the bases as they could hear the jingling of his pocket change and keys, a sound that always brought a smile.
His love for the game extended beyond the field as well, Michael spent several years coaching his son's baseball team, sharing his knowledge, patience and humor with the next generation of ballplayers. He took great pride in helping kids learn the game and always encouraged them to play hard, have fun, and be good teammates.
Michael was a devoted and loving father to his son, Tim, a caring stepfather to Nick and a proud grandfather to Loreali and Byron, Matthew and Austin, McKenzie, Dylan and Layne. He was also a loyal friend to many and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Michael is survived by his son, Tim (Eli) Herried; grandchildren, Loreali and Byron; Nick (Barb) Webb; grandchildren Matthew and Austin; grandchildren McKenzie, Dylan and Layne, siblings, Leon (Carolyn) Herried, LeRoy (Cindy) Herried, Layne (Karen) Herried, Don (Donna) Herried, Cheryl (Rob) Olson, Carol (Bruce) Blanchar, Mark (Dianne) Herried, and Cathy (Darrel) Nelson; as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas and Alice Herried, and his brother, Wayne Herried.
A visitation will be held at Jensen-Modjeski Funeral Home in Hixton, WI on Thursday, November 20, 2025, from 6:00–8:00 PM, and again on Friday, November 21, 2025, from 10:00–11:00 AM, funeral service at 11:00 AM. Celebration of Life to follow at the Taylor Community Center.
Michael will be remembered for his quick wit, strong spirit, and the warmth he brought to everyone around him.
