Michael Lee Hicks, 67, of Priest River, Idaho, passed away on Friday, October 31, 2025, while hiking in Idaho.
Michael was born, August 30, 1958, in Bessemer, Alabama and grew up around Birmingham. He graduated from Berry High School in Hoover Alabama in 1976 and attended Samford University. His talents were greatly valued by his associates and friends in Computer Equipment Sales.
Several decades ago, he followed his dream and moved to Coeur D' Alene Idaho to enjoy fly fishing. There he expanded his talents as a songwriter/singer/musician for a bluegrass band 'Moses Willey' which he founded and managed. He enjoyed playing mandolin, banjo, and guitar. Nature was important to Michael. Often, he hiked through cedar forests, to waterfalls and hot springs, or kayaked the beautiful Idaho lakes. He achieved mental and physical health and self-awareness through collecting crystals, reiki, and meditation. Most important to him were the close relationships he cherished in Idaho. He never met a stranger and often treated his friends with his barbecue and culinary talents. He loved trying new restaurants and could tell you where to find the best steak houses and coffee shacks throughout Northern Idaho. He cherished his grandchildren who adorningly called him Papa. Through it all, he never lost the love for his Alabama roots and family back home. Roll Tide!
Mr. Hicks is survived by his mother, Nancy Hicks; sisters, Celia Bengel, Leslie (Tim) Ware; nephews, Wes (Cherie) Ware, Colton (Sydney) Ware; great-nephew, Bryson Ware; former wife and friend, Paula Hicks; stepchildren, Amanda Bloyd and Alex Bloyd; grandchildren, Kensi Bloyed, Elliot Sumner, Melissa Candler which he adored with all his heart; special friends, Cheryl Smith, Renee Honrada, Charlon Bobo and Dan Parmley which remained close by his side.
