GUILDERLAND - Michael Anthony Hoffman, 20, passed away after a courageous two-year battle with cancer on April 14, 2023.
Born on July 31, 2002, in Albany, Michael was the son of Patricia (Matteo) Hoffman and Michael A. Hoffman, and the husband of Cassie Snyder-Hoffman.
In addition to his parents and wife, Michael is survived by his siblings, Haylee (Sean Ryan), Brendan and Nick Hoffman, along with his "best puppy," Max. He was the grandson of Florence Matteo and Blanche Hoffman. He is also survived by his loving aunts, uncles and cousins, who he cherished immensely. Michael was predeceased by his grandfathers, Richard Matteo and Robert Hoffman, and several aunts and uncles.
Michael grew up in Guilderland and was a 2020 graduate of Guilderland High School, where he made lifelong friends and was a member of the football team. Michael worked at Regeneron as a contractor for Insight Global until his illness made it too difficult.
Michael enjoyed golfing, watching football (N.Y. Giants), and playing Xbox. His biggest joy was spending time with his close friends and family. Knowing Michael was to know he was passionate, caring, kind, generous and brutally honest. You never had to guess what was on his mind, if he loved you, he wasn't afraid to tell you. Michael endured so much these last two years but rarely complained. He was always more concerned about how his illness was affecting the ones he loved, rather than how it was affecting him. He was truly an inspiration and will be missed beyond words. Above all, Michael was devoted to his wife, his family, and enjoyed being at family gatherings. Michael was especially close to his siblings who, in addition to his wife and parents, were his rock throughout his illness. They stood by his side and cared for him, putting him above all else. Whatever Michael wanted or needed, they were at his beck and call. Michael leaves such a hole in our family, a hole that will never be filled.
The family would like to thank Dr. Lauren Weintraub and Dr. Matthew Adamo; The Melodies Center at Albany Medical Center, especially Sue, Marybeth, Meredith and Brenda; Albany Medical Center Pediatrics Unit; Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, especially Dr. David Reardon, Jen and their team; and, the Hon. Rachel Kretser, who fulfilled Michael's last wish of marrying the love of his life.
Relatives and friends are invited to visit with Michael's family on Tuesday, April 18, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the McVeigh Funeral Home, 208 North Allen St., Albany. Please enter the funeral home from the rear parking lot entrance only. Funeral services on Wednesday, April 19, at 10 a.m. in St. Madeleine Sophie Church, 3500 Carman Road, Schenectady, where his funeral Mass will be celebrated. The Rite of Committal will be held in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery immediately following the funeral Mass.
