Michael Clay Holderby, 63, of Burlington, WV, passed away at his residence on Sunday, October 5, 2025.
Born on November 2, 1961 to his parents, Carolyn Sue (Dettinburn) Holderby and Wilbur Clay Holderby, Michael was a man of deep family values and was known for his unwavering love for all those who were a part of his life. He is preceded in death by his mother; his grandparents who reared him, Harry and Georgia Dettinburn, and his precious niece Allyson Warnick.
Michael is survived by his father, Wilbur Clay Holderby of Gerrardstown, WV and his devoted wife of 41 years, Karen Sue (Grandstaff) Holderby. He also leaves behind his two daughters, Carly Welch and her husband Mike of Burlington and Teresa of Logan, WV. He was a proud grandfather to Caleb Welch and his fiancée, Kristina Mason, Braedon Welch and his fiancée Ashia Mayhew, Emerald Welch, and Jack, Cody, Heaven, and Laney Rodeheaver. His great-grandchildren, Ruby and Jaxon Welch, and Runa and Rowen Rodeheaver, will remember him as a loving and devoted great-grandfather. Michael is also survived by his sister, Susan Holderby of Gerrardstown; several nieces and nephews and his special canine companion, his baby girl, "Shasta."
Michael dedicated his career to the Shockey Pre-Cast Group in Winchester, VA. He was an accomplished individual but his greatest accomplishment was his family. He loved them more than anything in his life. He was an avid coffee drinker and found great joy in attending West Virginia Festivals all over the state with his wife. His family remembers him as a pillar of strength, a beacon of love, and a man who put his family above all else.
His life was a living example of the quote, "Family is not an important thing, it's everything." He was a man who believed in the power of love, the strength of family, and the beauty of life. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him.
Friends will be received at the Smith Funeral Home, Keyser Chapel, on Monday, October 13, 2025 from 12:00 until 2:00 p.m.
A funeral service will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Gwen Wolford officiating.
Interment will be in the Potomac Memorial Gardens, Keyser.
