Michael Hollman Obituary

Michael George Hollman

Sep 2, 1952 - Feb 1, 2026

My brother, my best friend, crossed over to the next portion of his journey on February 1, 2026. Mike out-graced cancer and was surrounded (literally) by the love of family, friends and a yard full of magnificent birds and Earnie the squirrel. I will remain humbled all the days of my life by just how many people's lives Mike touched. Mike is survived by me, his favorite and only sister, Patrice (Margaret); brother, Bill (Ruby); partner and love, Jill Bowman; daughters, Natasha (Drew) and Chelsey (Sammy); and six grandchildren whom he loves and adores and has pledged to watch over. Mike has the best daughters in Natasha and Chelsey. Soooo many people to thankfirst and foremost the lovely and enchanting Miss Vivian, Jill, Ben, Sam, and Savannah (Nickolas). You opened your home with grace and compassion allowing Mike to spend his days basking in sunlight. Sumner (Winston-Salem Massage and Wellness) your massages, reiki, koshi bells, playlist and time together gave Mike comfort, joy, relaxation and happiness. Bless you! Dr. Demetria Jacks, you and your team of angels helped Mike swing for the fences. Your plan, your guidance, your compassionate messages gave my brother a chance. Anybody that knew Mike knows that he loved a great plan. A project. A purpose. To Mike's forever neighbor Keith, thank you for giving him peace with your words of wisdom. Trellis in-home staff and those at the Katy B. Reynolds Hospice House (Jennifer, Jessica, Shanna, Helen, Madeline, Lilly, Miss Gladys, Wendy, Amy and many more whose names I cannot recall) thank you for easing his pain and providing an atmosphere where Mike found peace. Your care and support provided grace and dignity and for that we are forever grateful. To all those who sent cards and messages, please know how grateful Mike was. We now have our very own angel who watches over all of us. I know my parents and Pat and Hal will be there to greet him at those twinkly pearly gates. We were born and raised in Flint, Mich., when the water was clean and Genesee St. was packed with kids. Graduate of Flint Northern HS and then Ferris State College (oh so proud member of Lambda Chi Alpha fraternity). Long time Winston-Salem resident who helped coach the Salem College ladies soccer team (Coach Jay he loved these days) and the tennis team. His induction into the Salem Academy and College Athletics Hall of Fame just delighted Mike and made him sooo proud. Mike also joined forces with Blaine to coach the Calvary Baptist girls tennis team. He adored your time together. Michael, Margaret and I made three trips to Williamsport to watch the Little League World Series. What a time we had crossing that off our bucket list! My brother loved volunteering with the Saturday morning Adaptable's tennis group (happy dance) and loved playing tennis with his group of beloved friends on Monday, Tuesday and twice on Thursday. Mike loved loved loved taking his entire Winston-Salem family to The Nutcracker every December followed by a fancy meal. He carried on this holiday tradition that our mom started when the girls were young. To the Brown family and all those at Adele Twin Cities, especially Gary M., thank you for creating an environment where Mike thrived as an amazing facilities manager. My heavenly vision of Mike is him in St. John sitting on the deck at Villa La Mer in Cruz Bay, book in one hand and a glass of scotch in the other. Tom, his long time friend, thank you for your friendship. Surf some great waves in honor of your bestie.

There will be one heck of a celebration of Michael's life at 4 p.m., on April 18th, at the Westwood Club. Mark your calendars. Note the mandatory dress for the celebration is tennis attire. No ties, no dressy clothes, just your fave old tennis or gym attire and sneakers/tennis shoes. If you have one, sport your Team Mike shirt. In lieu of flowers or cards, be like Mike and pay it forward. Be kind in these tough times. Be thoughtful. Extend grace. Be humble. Make a plan and follow through. If you ever find yourself in St. John, raise a glass and offer a toast to my best friend, our angel, my brother Michael. May the longtime sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you guide you on your way. Son. Brother. Friend. Fraternity brother. Tennis player. Coach. Father. Grandpa Mike. I will miss you Michael George all the days of my life! We all will.

To the Family of Michael Hollman:
I was saddened to learn of the passing of a gentleman who was loved by many. One of the saddest aspects of Michael's passing is that I have only known him since January 19th. The Lambda Chi Alpha chapter at Ferris State publicized his situation and I sent him a message.

As a Canadian member of Lambda Chi Alpha I have been very blessed through my membership in this great international fraternity. I have met an endless number of talented & unique individuals. I have had experiences that none of my non-fraternity friends have enjoyed. Some examples: 36 trips to the Indianapolis 500, a private tour of the Headquarters of the U.S. Strategic Air Command including a private meeting and a lunch with the Commander-In-Chief, hosting people like Dolly Parton in my home, receiving medical consultation from experts in Pediatrics and Urology which were instrumental in saving my son's life and also dealing with my prostate cancer.
I am attaching a photo that Michael likely would have enjoyed. In the mid-1970s I designed a Lambda Chi Alpha hockey jersey and sent one to a fraternity brother who had recently moved to Los Angeles. A few months later I received an 8x10 autographed photo which pictured a young lady that he had hired for a recording session.
Farewell Michael. I wish that we had met many years ago.
Sincerely yours in ZAX,
Ronald G. Holland
