Deacon Michael LaNied "Big Daddy" Jackson, age 71, a native of Birmingham,
Alabama, was born on March 15, 1954, transitioned peacefully on October 19, 2025,
surrounded by his family.
He attended Phillips High School and graduated in 1972. He went on to build a
respected career in management. For many years, he served as a dedicated store
manager for the Bruno's grocery chain, where he became a familiar and trusted
presence to both customers and colleagues. He later continued his professional journey
at Social Security Administration and Southern Research Institute.
Michael was known for his quiet strength and kind spirit. Affectionately called "Big
Daddy," he was a tender-hearted and mild-mannered man-a gentle giant who spoke
few words but whose actions spoke volumes. His calm demeanor and steady presence
left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
At an early age, he joined Mt. Olive Baptist Church, where he served faithfully as both
Deacon and Trustee. His commitment to his faith and church community reflected the
values by which he lived-humility, service, and integrity.
Outside of work and church, Michael found joy in simple pleasures. He was an avid
bowler and golfer who enjoyed spending time on the lanes or out on the green. He also
had a passion for music and shared that love with others through disc jockeying.
Michael's greatest devotion was to his family. He was preceded in death by his beloved
son Michael L. Jackson Jr.; his parents Willie H. Jackson and Helen M. Jackson; sisters
Juanita White and Louise C. Robey; and brothers Ralph Edward Jackson, Horace
Jackson, and Seyvon Brown, Sr.
Michael is survived by the love of his life, his devoted wife, Marilyn McDonald Jackson;
