Michael J. Jersey

Michael "Mike" Joseph Jersey, of Stevens Point, passed away peacefully at home on December 3, 2025, at the age of 68.
Mike was born June 16, 1957, in Stevens Point; son of Joseph "Joe" and Helen (Bovee) Jersey. He grew up in a family that loved the outdoors and spent family time enjoying boating and camping together. When he was a little older, he and his father would go out hunting on their land, too. Mike attended local schools and graduated from Stevens Point Area Senior High with the Class of 1975.
Following high school, Mike entered the workforce and dedicated most of his working career to Consolidate Papers. When the company closed, he went on to build his own business where he owned and managed 60 student rental units. Upon his retirement, he sold the business and began donating his time and talents to Woodlands Church.
Mike was proud of his Christian faith and worked every day to grow. He attended Highland Church for nearly 15 years and then began attending Woodlands Church for the last 15 years. He was an active member in a wide variety of activities from men's ministries, Bible studies, life groups, and senior fellowship to helping with maintenance and ministry projects within the church and community. He joyfully helped load trucks with hundreds of boxes for Samaritan's Purse Operation Christmas Child, filled bags of food for Feed Portage County, and filled backpacks with supplies for Backpacks for Hope. Mike was truly blessed with the gift to help, often supporting many local charities and global missions. In his later years, Mike's faith focused on prayer and personal health.
In addition to his career and his faith, Mike also maintained his health. He kept active in local fitness facilities and had memberships at two of them. He was also sure to schedule regular social activities, many of which were church related. He enjoyed going out to eat and going on bike rides with his friends. He was also lovingly known as "Uncle Mikie" to his nieces and nephews, who all adored his silly, goofy nature. While Mike had a love for all the people in his life, he also had a love for his cats. Over the course of his life, he had three feline friends that he lovingly spoiled. He was sure to take countless pictures of them!
Mike is survived by his father, Joe; his sisters, Debra (Fred) Hoerter, Marie (Gary) Schrank, Kathy (Ron) Holets, and Mary Clapp; his daughter, Brittany Erwin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother, Helen; a niece, Jessica Helminiak; and a brother-in-law, Howard Clapp.
For those wishing to express their sympathies, the family kindly requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Humane Society of Portage County; a place Mike donated to and visited often.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, January 9, 2026, at Shuda Funeral Chapel - 3200 Stanley Street, Stevens Point. Friends and family are invited to gather and share memories at the funeral home from 9:30 AM until the time of service. Burial will follow at Guardian Angel Cemetery in Stevens Point.
