Michael Anthony Johnson was born in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 31, 1953 to the union of the late Walter Kenner and Virginia Mayo Johnson. He departed his earthly life on December 10, 2024. He was 71 years old.
Michael lived most of his life as a resident of New Orleans, Louisiana where he accepted Christ at an early age. He was a member of Progressive Baptist Church and Grace Community Church before moving to South Carolina in 2005 and becoming a member of Immanuel Baptist Church. He was educated in the New Orleans Public School System and a 1972 graduate of Booker T. Washington Senior High School. Michael was a chef at several restaurants: New Orleans Fair Grounds, World Trade Center, Westin Hotel and Marriott Bennigans. Michael was a caterer for many events. He later worked for the United States Post Office.
Michael was loved and respected as a father, family member and friend. He always kept you laughing and smiling. Michael will be greatly missed.
Michael was preceded in death by parents: Virginia Johnson and Walter Kenner; siblings: Debra Nelson, Ellis Johnson, Armsy Larry Smith, John Johnson Sr. and Stephanie Johnson-Fenny.
Michael leaves behind one son Edward Isaac Payne and siblings: Rosalyn McCrory (Robert), Reginald Johnson Sr, Walter Johnson Sr, Baron Smith (Michele King), Rosa Terry, Saul Johnson, Raymond Johnson (Wanda), Alvin Johnson (Trenell), Althais Fernandez (Willie), Kim Herron (Detrick), and a host of nephews, nieces, extended relatives, many lifelong friends and neighbors.
