Michael Douglas Jones, a.k.a. "Dr. Death", 71, of Uniontown, passed away on September 9, 2024. He was born in Akron on September 24, 1952 to the late Harold E. and Irene {Laport} Jones.
In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his beloved wife Leona "Darlene" Jones in 2018, and his brothers Curtis Jones and Kevin Jones.
Mike is survived by his loving sons Sean (Abby) Jones and Michael Jones Jr. "Mikey"; sister Penny Glover (Dave); grandson Michael Fisher; nieces Shawna Echevarria, Sherry Stumpf and Jenny Kirk; nephews Nick and Chris Jones; and all his special racing friends.
Mike's love for all things automotive was unmatched. He was an incredibly skilled mechanic, an excellent racer, and was always willing to help anyone with their car needs.
His first love was his family. Mike was a wonderful husband, father, brother, grandpa and uncle, and was reliable, supportive, and ALWAYS early!
Mike's family finds comfort in knowing he's back to racing with all his buddies that have gone before him.
Family and friends are welcome to visit at Newcomer Funeral Home, 131 N. Canton Rd. Akron, OH 44305 on Saturday, September 21st from 1:00 p.m. until the memorial service that begins at 3:00 p.m. Private inurnment at Northlawn Memorial Gardens, where Mike will be laid to rest with Darlene. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to the funeral home to help defray funeral costs.
