Michael Keith Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Direct Cremation of Maine - Belfast on Feb. 26, 2026.
Michael Keith, 66, of Augusta, Maine, passed away on February 19, 2026 unexpectedly at Maine Medical Center in Portland. Mike was born on July 16, 1959, in Long Beach, California, to William Pleas Keith and Lou Ella (Rodgers) Keith. He had been a resident of Augusta for five years, having made the move from sunny Southern California.

Mike attended Monte Vista High School in Whittier, California, where he ran track, played soccer, and played football. He especially excelled in track and was even going to be sponsored by Wheaties, though that opportunity ultimately never came to be.

Mike worked for many years as a truck driver, a profession that suited him well. He was never one to stay in one place for very long. He also had a love for motorcycles. Mike appreciated the open road, new scenery, and the sense of freedom that came with it. He carried that same independent spirit throughout his life.

When his children were young, one of his favorite things to do was taking them to the movies every weekend. It was something he genuinely loved, not just for the movies, but for the time together. Those simple outings became lasting memories. This is a pastime that he also got to enjoy with his grandchildren.

He had a magnetic personality and could make friends with just about anyone. He would go out of his way to help someone in need without hesitation.

He is survived by his wife of 14 years, Kandis; his daughters, Kandace (Demetry) Gutierrez and Kristen (Chris) Bowe of California; two step sons, Nathaniel Merchant of Portland, Maine and Elijah Merchant of Augusta, Maine; ten grandchildren; his sister, Darlene Cordell of Anaheim, California; several nieces and nephews and his beloved dogs Ozzy and Angel.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Michael J.W. Keith; his siblings, Jimmie Walden, Betty Barton, Patsy Ferrell, and Debbie Lou Keith; and his nephews, Ronald Walden Earl and William Patterson, and two granddaughters, Anisette and Arabella.

Michael will be remembered for his sense of humor, his kindness, and his deep love for his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and uncle, and his presence in the lives of those who knew him will be deeply missed.
