Jeffrey Wayne Winthrop

Jeffrey Wayne Winthrop, known to his loved ones as "Scooter," passed away on October 20, 2023, at the age of 50 in Ocean Beach, CA. Born on September 12, 1973, in La Mesa, CA, he was the beloved son of two families: the Frickes and the Winthrops.
Jeff attended Avocado Elementary School before graduating from Monte Vista High School. He continued his education at San Diego State University, where he pursued a degree in recreation management.
Throughout his career, Jeff worked as a mascot with the San Diego Chicken, a restaurant manager, substitute teacher, and more recently as a bartender at Stone Brewing, where he not only crafted delicious concoctions, but created memorable experiences for his customers.
From the crack of a bat to the roar of a football stadium, he found joy in the competitive spirit and camaraderie that sports brought. Whether he was on the field or cheering from the stands his dedication and love for the 'game' was unwavering.
An aficionado of poker, Jeff was not only a skillful dealer, but an amazing player. He had an unyielding poker face that helped him take several winners' pots' over the years. And when he wasn't playing poker, you could find him playing Texas hold em' – another favorite of Jeff's, where his sharp wit and calculated moves often led to victory.
Happy hours were always 'happier' with Jeff. His laugh and vibrant spirit made every happy hour more enjoyable – whether it was watching a game at the bar, trading stories, or telling jokes, his energy was magnetic.
With rhythm in his soul and always ready to 'bust a move,' he could captivate any audience with his stellar moves – from break dancing to hip hop, he could do it all!
Jeff will be deeply missed by his family and friends, who will forever remember his warm smile, contagious laughter, big hugs, and the way he naturally lit up a room. May his spirit and passion of for life continue to inspire us all.
He is survived by his mother Linda Fricke and step-dad Larry Fricke, father Hugh Winthrop and step-mother Sue Winthrop, and his siblings Dayna Morgan, Devon Winthrop and Shea Winthrop.
