Michael Kilchenstein Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors on Feb. 20, 2026.
The family of Michael Willard Kilchenstein MD, is sad to announce his peaceful passing on Wednesday, February 18, 2026. He was 89.
Known to his family and friends as "Mick", or "Mickey", Michael was born November 19, 1936. He is survived by Grace, his loving wife of over 69 years, their 4 children - Michael Jr., Leslie Kilchenstein, Anne Spivey, and Stephen Kilchenstein; 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Mick earned his undergraduate degree from Loyola College. Then, married Grace, and while supporting his young family Mick earned his medical degree from the University of Maryland, completed an internship, a successful Psychiatric Residency at Johns Hopkins University – all while serving his country as a Major in the Armed Forces of the United States. Mick became a leader in his field, an innovator, and a business entrepreneur, but his true professional love was Psychoanalysis, which he practiced with dedication, love and acceptance. His career was truly his calling which he enjoyed for over 50 years, retiring only 2 years ago at age 87.
Mick was a superb vocalist who loved to participate with Choral groups. He was also an avid and accomplished classical guitarist. He and Grace raised their children to love and appreciate the best in life – Art, Opera, Classical Music, Classic Rock…REALLY good wine…milkshakes…and of course, peanut butter ice cream. Mick loved to travel with family and friends – much of which was as a private pilot flying his own airplanes.
From all who knew, loved…and still love you… We are grateful to have had you in our lives.
Mick has requested that there be no funeral, but rather, a gathering of friends and family to reminisce and laugh in his honor. The date and location will be announced in the near future.
Rather than flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the 988 Lifeline – Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: https://988lifeline.org/donate/ - OR – Brain & Behavior Research Foundation: https://donate.bbrfoundation.org/civicrm/contribute/transact?reset=1&id=1
